Coleman Racing Extend Championship Lead in Gosport
H aving proved ourselves in Scarborough battling up to 4m swells followed by dominating the inaugural Scottish Grand Prix in flat calm conditions we went into the 3rd Round in Gosport knowing that the Solent would bring us a fresh challenge.
Preserving Top Spot
Although the wave heights were nowhere near as big as Scarborough the infrequency and random wave patterns we knew would be testing. For a rookie team only being around the water since coming into the sport the sea states here are far more difficult to read and predict. With a 21 point lead in the Championship we knew we had to finish all four races over the weekend to protect our lead so decided to play it safe on the Saturday securing a steady start with a 5th and 3rd.
The conditions worsened on the Sunday but with 2 races running back to back we decided to go for it. We won the first race then achieved a 3rd despite losing engine trim which proves critical to ensure the boat attacks each wave at the correct angle.
Another Podium Secured
This led to us securing 2nd place on the podium behind the impressive ‘Team Experience Kissimmee’ whose crew have been racing boats successfully for 25 years and it certainly showed this weekend. A huge compliment for us with it being our team’s debut season.
Our Home Race Awaits
A steep earning curve but we go into our next race in Cardiff Bay over 28/29th August leading the Championship by 25 points.
